City Rhyme
September 15-23, 2022
Starta Art’s second 2022 members’ exhibition, “City Rhyme,” was curated by Anna Fateeva It opened on September 15th and ran to September 23rd with a reception on September 15th 6-8pm. The artists featured are Charles Compo, Justin Nissley, KellyAnn Monaghan, Kerry Lessard, Linda Streicher, Markus Holtby, Oxana Kovalchuk, and Sabrina Puppin.
“City Rhyme,” presented an artistic reflection on the New York physicality that is embodied by a rational grid made of right and acute angles. This inorganic display of architectural power is imposed on the topography with mathematical precision. The ambition of this physical character competes with the organic, asymmetrical natural landscape. This unique rhythm suggests a city rhyme that this exhibition celebrated in the presentation of artists' work.
New York is visually stimulating. Each neighborhood combines to define the city and is made of unique character and fabric. New York can be chaotic or orderly, frenetic or calm, or all of these at once and then woven into an incongruous tapestry. The vastness of the the city’s scope is balanced by the intimacy of each individual’s vision within it. Every person making up the city mosaic has their own independent version of New York. This condition is celebrated in this artist exhibition, entitled City Rhyme
